Imperial Home Page -> Imperials by Year -> 1961 -> Anchorage-1965
This photo was taken by a tourist in 1965 and shows the eastern end of downtown Anchorage about a year after the 1964 Alaska Earthquake. The large cleared and excavated areas along the middle and right of the photo indicate the extensive damage done along this section of 4th Avenue. None of the structures were salvageable.
In the lower left corner of the photo on the left, one can see a red 1961 Imperial 2-door Hardtop in a parking lot. The close-up on the right shows a bit more detail. A few other Mopars are visible, especially a black 1960-61 DeSoto or Chrysler at the bottom center of the photo, behind the Alaska Cleaners van.
Interestingly, in 1986 I scavenged parts from a red 1961 2-door Imperial located in a wrecking yard for my 1962 LeBaron.
