Vehicle Identification Decoder
Here's how the vin decoder works: each character of the vin represents a specific piece of information. These character are in set positions. Position 1 for example, is the character most to the left, two is the next one to the right, etc.

Body Code Plate
The body code plate is the metal plaque on the radiator enclosure body panel which has a few lines of information which basically lists the stock colors of the car, options, etc. Lines 4, 5, 6 and 7 aren't used for defining service information, etc.
Here's a break down on understanding this information. The information "lines" appear in decreasing order, starting with three at the top, and 1 at the bottom.
Line 3:
Digit Boxes 1 through 3 = paint procedure.
Digit Boxes 4-7 = primary paint color.
Digit Boxes 8-11 = Secondary paint color.
Digit Boxes 12-15 = interior trim color.
Digit Boxes 16-18 = Engine codes. EGA = 3.3L V6 Gas (EFI) and auto tranny, EGH = 3.8L V6 Gas (EFI) auto tranny.
Line 2:
Digit Boxes 19-30 = Vehicle Order #
Digit Boxes 31-33 = Vinyl Roof Code
Digit Boxes 34-36 = Vehicle Shell Car Line. ACC = New Yorker/Dynasty (Canadian), ACD = Dynasty (USA), ACY = New Yorker, 5th Ave, Imperial.
Digit Box 37 = Price Category. E = economy, H = high line, L = low line, M = maximum, P = Premium, S = special/sport, X = performance/image.
Digit Boxes 38-39 = body type. 41 = 4 door sedan.
Digit Boxes 40-42 = tranny codes DGL = 4 speed auto
Digit Box 43 = Market country/code. U = USA, C = Canada, B = International, M = Mexico.
