The A604- the only tranny to come with the 3.3/3.8, had its own computer, the TCM. This is because this computer assists in shifting, the idea was that the ride would be smoother (although that doesn't seem to happen once the A604 starts having the hard-shift problem....).
This computer works with the PCM, as the two exchange information. This is one reason why- even if someone could get an other tranny to mate with the 3.3/3.8, it still wouldn't match the electronics
