Imperial Home Page -> Imperials by Year -> 1990 -> Modifications -> Spark Plug Wires
Basically the ignition system in these cars has little ability to be modified. Only the plugs and wires can be altered. The only true modifications that can be made in the ignition system are the use of thicker spark plug wires and platinum plugs.
Thicker diameter wires allows for less electrical resistance, which means the ability for larger spark- which is good for keeping an older engine running. These cars used 7.5mm wires stock. 10mm wires (or larger) will work, but may require being cut to fit- as no company offers 10mm wires pre-cut for the 3.3/3.8L V6.
The use of platinum plugs means that the spark plugs would only require changing every 100,000 miles- which is infinity good for these cars- as replacing plugs on the 3.3/3.8L Imperials are about as fun as having several dozen fillings made at the dentist without pain killers. This plugs last longer, and are much better on every scale, and aren't that much more money either.
