Jur Klavers from the Netherlands writes in to tell us about his newly acquired 1977 NYB:

Here's what Jur had to say about this very nice automobile:

Well, where to begin. I have purchased on Saturday Feb.16th 2019 a great looking 1977 Chrysler NY Brougham 4dr hardtop by an american car shop who have a large collection of cars of different brands and types. I did bring in my 1978 Buick Riviera 403 cid 6.6l V8 that is a great car but after 6 years of owning it I decided to sell. Time for something new and different. My NY is silver, they called it Silver Cloud as far as I know. The car is still at the shop and I will pick it up next week. Chassis number CS43J7C127299. 440cid 7.2 V8, single exhaust and I am not really sure at this moment, but the not so popular lean burn system is removed. I noticed that the Spark computer control box isn't there. There is a little rust by the rear fender very below at the passenger side. This will be solved before delivery. Some other small issues such as the shield that hides the wires and such in the trunk is absent. 2 knobs from the after market radio (but with old-school look!) are absent, the cigarette lighter on the dash is gone as well.

It's equipped with the following options: dual power seats, leather upholstery, auto temp II A/C, tilt/telescope steering wheel, cruise master speed control, tinted glass complete (with extra dark shade as well that can be removed), power door locks, power antenna, 4 speakers, lighted visor vanity mirror, carped savers, body side molding, remote control outside rearview mirrors, power trunk lid release, trunk dress-up, conventional spare tire cover, carpeted trunk and wheel wells, vinyl top (but I am not sure if this is a option or standard), chronometer, manual vent windows (a desired must have option!), door edge protective moldings, rear window defroster, locking gas cap, cornering lights. The seller told me that the car is in great shape overall and in great order mechanically and pampered by the former owner. Drives smooth, quiet, shifts smoothly. And yep, maybe that it not so really smart... I didn't make a test drive before I buy. .... So I have to believe what the seller told me about it. Of course I have asked a lot of questions.

Got the car delivered Monday 25th Feb...

Well, great ride but drives different than my former Buick Riviera that's for sure. These two are really different cars!!!! But that is something I must getting use to it in time. Got a lot of attention everywhere because such an enormous car isn't common on every streetcorner. There are some issues that has to be repaired, solved, or done. The main brake cylinder doesn't work properly or not at all. So that must be done as soon as possible. I already have make an appointment with a garageshop.!!!

The round reading lights in the rear are dead, a light under the dash and vanity mirror are out as well. Underhood light is out. The window wipers are dried out so these are noisy. Replacement needed. I noticed that with headlights on all four are operating but I don't know if this correct ... this isn't allowed in the Netherlands It seems now that I driving with high beam on as well. In the Netherlands we are driving with the lights on low beam. High beam Is only used for particular situations.

I have to check out if I have the correct bulbs in my collection. And if these are just regular easy to do bulbs and still available if needed around at the local garages.

The manual adjustment of the passenger seatback recliner can be pulled up for the adjustment but the seatback doesn't move at all. What the problem is I don't know. Very annoying. The last knob for tilt or lower the passenger seat rear cushion doesn't work. The other two knobs working properly. Gladly the driver seat have no problems .

Chronometer is working but trying to change the hour doesn't happen when push the wheel and turn for adjustment.

Power antenna goes out but not completey getting in again. Adding some lubrication didn't solve it.

Cardboard in the trunk is missing, so I will made something by my self as replacement, So It can be driving, but now it's time to focus on the detailing.

3rd March 2019 ...

Finally all interior lights are now in working order ... are able to operate with the main light knob fully pulled out and turned on the left by the driver .... rear reading lamps can be operated by the rear passenger by their own if needed, with the knob placed in the door panel ... under dashboard reading lamp works when opening the door or with a switch, or if the driver pull out turn the knob full left.

So only some new bulbs needed, now I know the rear panels doesn't have to be removed at all (gladly). Remove the lavaliere strap, carefully pop out the round lamp houses on the edges, then getting access to bulb. The under the dash courtesy reading lamp was a difficult story. Everytime I put it back, the small lamp fell out ... larger format 10W lamp between the two metal lips solved the problem. See thru plastic lens cleaned up.

My car lacks a cardboard in the trunk ... to solve this, I added a neat looking piece of dark grey foam rubber, and keep it neat in place with 2 metal strips, using the 2 holes with the screws from the former shield.

Now I have to check out one headlight .... I think that to get access that must be behind the housing. as far as I can see it is a halogen type of bulb.

I also check out if there are white cornering lamps added .....the yellow-orange are there and are in working order.
