1969 Imperial LeBaron Owned by Ed Noble
I bought this '69 LeBaron in the spring of 1972--yes, that�s over 30 years ago, and at the time it was a replacement car. In 1972, there were no SUVs, and I was in need of a big car to carry me and my things back to college--and I wasn't going in a station wagon! At the time, I thought this was the biggest, neatest car I had ever seen, and 30 years later I still do. Needless to say, I fell in love with "Big Ethel," so named for her love of 103 octane gasoline. Over the years this car has performed flawlessly in all sorts of situations. It has only let me down one time and that was only a mile from home with a dirty wire connection. In the last 30 years, except for tires, batteries and regular maintenance, I have replaced the carburetor, water pump, power steering pump, had the brakes (Budds) rebuilt once, installed one new exhaust system, and had the transmission gone through. The car has had one repaint and a new vinyl top 15 years ago. Needless to say, I have always tried to care for the car, as I knew soon after I bought it, it would be with me for a while. Little did I know how long "a while" would be! This car has the power vent windows, the auto dimmers with time delay lights, and the sequential turn signals (watch short videos of the left and right signals!). It also has all the other Imperial goodies except for tilt/telescope wheel and cruise control. I've always liked the fuselage cars from Chrysler, but I think the '69 through '71 Imperials are the best style. After 1971, they became more boxy and square, even though it�s the same platform and every bit an Imperial. So will I ever let my 69 Imperial go? I don�t know, but you might ask me again in 30 or so years!
