                  HISTORIC NOTES & NUMBERING INFORMATION:              

 

The Imperial was introduced on September 26, 1963.  The majority, 64.3%, had air conditioning and 91.9% had tinted glass.

 

The styling changes for '63 included a new stacked horizontal bar grille, divided in the center by a rectangular section containing a stylized eagle emblem.  The vertical taillights were now placed in the tailfins.  Circular backup lights were integrated into the rear bumpers.  The roof design was less slated than '62 models.

 

Vehicle identification numbers were as follows:  the first symbol designated make (Imperial is 9).  The second number designated series.  The third number designated year.  The fourth the manufacturing plant (3 - Detroit).  The fifth to tenth symbols designated production numbers starting at 100,001.
