1961 Chrysler Imperial convertible, 1 of 429 produced. Last Exner and tail fin car! It has been in dry storage over the last 30 years and is a very nice driver quality car. Car is white on white on white, believed to have some of its original paint. 413 V8 with push button automatic transmission, power steering and power brakes. White leather interior, swivel power bucket driver's seat, rare air, foot-controlled Wonderbar radio. The steering wheel and dash pad are nice and show no cracks. Optional flight-swept trunk lid was added and is not original to the car. Original carpet and cardboard side panels are in the trunk. Mileage shows 47196, but cannot be verified and remains unknown. Brakes have all been recently rebuilt, including master cylinder, wheel cylinder, hoses and shoes, and drums turned. New fuel pump and rebuilt original carburetor. Car runs great. Power top and windows all working, power antenna not working. No floor panel rust, some of the best the owner has seen in a convertible. There are some spots that look like surface rust on the right rear quarter panel. (See photos.) Overall, this is a very nice, original, unmolested Chrysler Imperial Convertible. The chrome shows its age. Rubber is original and some is cracked. Upholstery is very nice. Each quarter panel fin extension shows original lead seam on the inside of both sides. The lead seam is also visible on both sides of the lower trunk panel. Also includes owner's manual, shop manual, accessory book, and more.

It is all original except for the beautifully re-done full leather interior which includes the door panels. I don't think that the seller realizes that.

The car is not all original. Looking at the trunk it's obvious it has been sprayed or replaced.

You are correct, the trunk lid WAS resprayed. The description discloses that the trunk lid is not original to the car.

When he owned it, my friend had two '61 convertibles. One was black and the other was white. Both were original, but the black car was bad. He swapped the Flight Sweep deck lid from the black one to the white one, and of course had it painted white. He also had the interior of THIS car totally reupholstered (including the door panels, and except the dash) in full leather. The actual stitching in the door panel pleats is visible in the pictures. He sold the black car to another friend of mine who planned to restore it and never got around to it. It had the white non- Flight Sweep trunk lid until it was finally parted out in the late 1980's.

The paint on the rest of the car is a combination of original paint and some repair work that was done while the car was on the road in the '60's. Other than the 30 years of storage, the car was on the road for approximately 12 years total. My friend bought it in 1974 after it had been parked in a garage for five years. He sold it in 1977 and it has been in storage ever since. The true mileage IS 100,000 more than stated in the auction (also disclosed as a possibility in the description).

It may have been 30+ years ago but I am familiar with the history of this car from that time period and still a close friend of the former owner.
