Installing Seat Belts in Your 1960 Imperial

Imperial Home Page -> Imperials by Year -> 1960 -> Seat Belts

When the issue of seat belts on old Imperials came up recently, Richard did some measurements on his 1960 Crown Imperial and snapped some pictures. Here's what he had to say about mounting them in his Imperial:
For the 1960 cars you will see three body mounting bolts in the floor, directly behind the front seat. For the front belts you use the center body bolt for one belt. For the second belt measure straight over 14.5". This puts the inboard hole right in the two grooves in the floor pan. I have seen the belts mounted two ways. The factory used a triangular mount and a 2.5" washer on the underside.

I have some NOS belts from the same manufacturer and they have a big eye ring that bolts to the floor then the belts have clips that attach. I think either is correct. I have yet to see a '60 with factory rear belts. With the factory belts you also get an oval chromium sticker for the dash that says "fasten safety belt". I also found this sticker in my NOS box.

Thanks to Richard for sharing his insights!
