Question from Kevin (1971):
I'm taking the AC off of my car, it doesn't work, and I don't plan on fixing it. Any tips on taking it off, and do I need to install a pully to replace the AC pully?
Reply from Kerry:
You need to have both belts in place and tight or the water pump will squeal like a stuck pig. On my '73 the lower pully was badly out of alignment because it had once been hooked to an air pump. The pump was removed and someone just stuck an idler pulley on. It did not line up and the belt was worn out. I just cut the belt off and the squealing began and stayed until I modified the pulley frame so it was in correct alignment (Cut apart and welded back together).
