From Hugh:

The good news is that if you can get the car to Karpps there is no reason why you cannot drive back in your own car. The will take, I am sure, your old one as a core and replace it with a properly functioning unit. I don't know if they will remove your old one, however. You'd need to discuss that with them. Frankly, I would be surprised in they will.

Evidently, you don't want to try to remove it yourself. No problem. If it ain't your cup of tea then that's OK. Here is what I would do. If Karpps will do the whole thing, you are one incredibly lucky guy. Assuming they won't, however, get the car to a brake shop that is prepared to work on it. (A tow truck will do nicely.) Have them remove the unit. Take it to Karpps and get your replacement. They may rebuild yours on the spot. I can do it in less than an hour so they would be able to get it done faster, without a doubt. Get the rebuilt unit back to the brake shop and have them reinstall it and bleed your brakes.

From Roger:

I recommend Karp's of Upland. CA. They will only rebuild your booster, no repair kits. If you have the bellows booster, they can have the end plate cadmium plated as original. I like their work and they cast the rubber parts they use.

(15 November 2004) From John:

Pleasant phone converstations and a quick turnaround for a rebuilt original power brake booster got me back on the road with no fuss. An earlier booster replacement I had picked up on e-bay had a different hole location for the coupling shaft to brake pedal linkage (~3/4"). Karps was aware of this difference. '64 Imperial Crown

(8 August 2007) From Carl Buccieri:

I needed my 63 'vette powerbrake booster rebuilt. Called Dewey, he said no problem. Sent it to him and it came back "as new". Re plated the drum and made a no longer available seal for the shaft. THE BEST!! Recommend to anyone for ANY booster problem or rebuild

(19 Oct 2013) From Reno Gargano:

HI: EVERYONE I CONTACTED KARPS FOR REBUILDING MY BRAKE CALIPERS, MY CLUTCH SLAVE CYLINDER, AND MY BRAKE MASTER CYLINDER. I WAS DEALING WITH JEFF. I TOLD HIM IT WAS FROM A EUROPEAN OLD CAR , I ALSO TOLD HIM THAT IT HAD THREE PISTONS EACH CALIPER .A TOTAL OF 12 PISTONS, ALSO NEEDED ALL THE SEALS. I WAS QUOTED A PRICE WITH ALL PISTONS & RESLEAVING IF NEEDED AT $150.00 EACH TO $200.00 EACH. THE SLAVE AT $50.00 AND THE BRAKE MASTER AT THE MOST $100.00. I SENT EVERYTHING TO JEFF, ( FROM NYC NY) WHEN I CALLED HIM AFTER TWO WEEKS HIS ANSWER WAS OH THAT BOX I DIDN'T EVEN OPEN IT. WELL I TOLD HIM THAT THE CAR WAS IN A SHOP AND IT COST MONEY TO LEAVE IN THIS SHOP. HE INSISTED HE HAD TO KNOW THE YEAR MAKE AND MODEL OF THE CAR THIS CAME OFF. I HESITATED BUT GAVE IN. 1969 LAMBORGHINI MIURA, 7 DAYS LATER HE CALLS ME AND TELLS ME NICE RIDE , THAT THE PARTS FOR THAT CAR ARE VERY EXPENSIVE, HE QUOTED ME $50.00 PER PISTON PLUS THE RUBBERS JUST FOR THE PISTONS IS $600.00 PLUS $250.00 FOR TWO KITS PLUS LABOR. I WAS IN THE BUSINESS I CONTACTED MY SUPPLIERS AND MADE ARRAIGNMENTS TO HAVE ALL THE PARTS HE NEEDED FOR MORE THAN HALF THE COST . THAN HE PROCEEDED TO REPAIR AT A COST OF $564.75 FOR JUST FOUR (4 ) CALIPERS AND A CLUTCH SLAVE CYLIDER WITCH I SUPPLIED THE KIT FOR . THEN HE WENT AHEAD TO REPAIR MY BRAKE MASTER CYLINDER AT A COST OF $368.00 MORE THAN IF I WOULD BUY IT NEW.THE TIME FRAME FOR ALL OF THIS IS 2/27/2012 TILL 5/17 2012 THAT IS MORE THAN THREE MONTHS THAT HAD TO PAY FOR MY CAR SITTING IN A GARAGE . DON'T DEAL WITH THIS MONEY HUNGRY ESTABLISHMENT AND A ONE MAN OPERATION

(6 Feb 2016) From Robert Call:

Had Kelsey-Hayes booster for a 52 Imperial rebuilt by Karp. Mechanic that is working on the car says the unit returned is not the same as one sent. Doesn't work, can't get any pedal. Numerous emails sent to Karp asking for him to talk to mechanic to help troubleshoot. No response. Will never recommend him.
