Much other information is obtained from the various other numbers on these engines and can be read if the number and its location is known. Also most if not all parts are date coded. One look at your alternator, for example, will tell me if it is correctly dated for your car.
The numbers and letters on the fender tag hold a wealth of information also. I can decode most or all of these numbers. If it has a number, that number has a meaning. Cars older than 1966 are difficult and I am not familiar with the newer that 1978 cars. I can read engines from way back. I have a list of old hemi engines and the year and model of car can be matched to the engine numbers.
