This musical/comedy makes for dreadful viewing, but features a gorgeous 1956 Imperial parade phaeton.

PLOT SUMMARY (from Internet Movie Database, since I didn't have the stomach to write about this stinker!): A comedy musical based on an earlier stage musical, which was in turn based on the comic strip characters created by Al Capp. When residents of Dogpatch, USA are notified by the government that they must evacuate, they try to persuade the government that their town is worth saving. Meanwhile, Earthquake McGoon wants to marry Daisy Mae; Daisy Mae wants to marry Li'l Abner, and Li'l Abner just wants to go fishing, until it is learned that Abner's Mammy's Yokumberry Tonic might be enough to save the town. Abner offers the tonic to Washington, but General Bullmoose wants it too, so Bullmoose tries to trap Abner into marrying his attractive but ditzy executive secretary, Appassionata. Meanwhile, Daisy Mae pledges herself to Earthquake in marriage in exchange for rescuing Abner from Bullmoose. Will Abner and Daisy Mae ever finally get together?
Daisy Mae shakes on a deal to use the beautiful "Stupefying" Jones to stop Li'l Abner in his tracks on Sadie Hawkins Day, so that she can catch and marry him. Ugh, this plot gives me a headache.... On a side note, "Stupefying" is played by Julie Newmar, who later became Cat Woman in the Batman TV series.

An hour into this flick that makes "The Beverly Hillbillies" seem like high art, we are treated to the arrival of a 1956 Imperial parade phaeton.

Notice the long, clean lines of Virgil Exner's parade phaetons, which first appeared in 1953 and were later updated with the 1956 exterior styling seen here.

The Senator and General Bullmoose arrive in Dogpatch, USA, in what appears to be the very same Imperial parade phaeton used by the politician in the Paul Newman film, Sweet Bird Of Youth.

The General's secretary, "Appassionata", is to be used to ensnare and marry Li'l Abner; reason unimportant.

They hire "Evil Eye Fliegel" to freeze Li'l Abner in his tracks at the Sadie Hawkins Day race, so that "Appassionata", not Daisy Mae, will catch and marry him. Personally, I think "Stupefying" would be more effective than this little green man.

Enough with the silly plot...check out those beautiful Kelsey Hayes wire wheels, which were first available in 1953.

Successful in her dastardly plot, "Appassionata" rides off in the '56 Imperial parade phaeton to marry Li'l Abner.
